My love affair with the bicycle started the first time I
rolled down our slightly inclined driveway 45 years ago on the neighbor’s bike when
I was 5 years old. I fell in love with
the feeling of pure freedom that riding provided. I fell in love with the unlimited exploration
possibilities provided by the bike.
Growing up, riding my bike was pretty much all I wanted to do. I built jumps and dirt tracks with my friends. We rode as far as our young legs would take
us and sometimes a little further. I
raced BMX as a teenager and eventually graduated to Mountain Bike, Road, Time
Trials, Cyclocross and even Track racing as an adult. And now, after 25 years of trying to go as
fast as I can during each of these races, I now just ride for health and fun,
just like I did when I was 5 years old.
There is a certain peace and security that I feel when I’m pedaling and
that’s why I keep on riding even as I get older.
As a Mike’s Bike Shop and Giant bicycles ambassador I post a
lot of my riding pics on social media to help promote those who support me and
my riding. Because of this, I get many
messages from people asking for advice on what they should buy and where they
should ride. I started this blog to
document my answers to these conversations.
Hopefully it will become a good resource for local (and even not so
local) riders and/or anyone who wants to get into cycling. It is not a blog about training. It is not a blog about riding faster and
farther. It’s a blog about how to
maximize your enjoyment of riding your bike.
It’s a blog about the craft of pedaling on 2 wheels. It’s a blog about the soul and core of riding
a bike and losing oneself in the process but also finding yourself at the same
time.
